The area surrounding Buried Boulder is a Slag Dump. When the mills were operating in the valley, they disposed of slag from the furnaces in this area. In some places, the slag walls along the stream are over 15 feet high. The area had recovered and reforested to some extent, but the recent clear-cutting has re-exposed the slag dump. This area is private property and we are guest of a gracious landowner that permits walk-in fishing and hiking. There is also a serious litter problem in this area, which if it continues may result in the landowner posting the area. Please pick up trash when you find it so that this does not happen. | |||||||||
