The Second Falls Pool
Further up Glade Run, is one of the most beautiful stream locations I have seen.  Lunch Break Rock, below The Second Falls, is an excellent location to sit in the overwhelming solitude of the forest.  Here, you can relax and listen to the falling water and other sounds of the wilderness.  This is a good place to pull your lunch from your pack and give thanks as you refuel your famished body with food, rest and communion with your creator.

The Second Falls exhibits classic shelf rock structure, much like that of  the Niagara American and Bridal Veil Falls.  In fact, when viewed up close, as in the images below, Glade Run's Second Falls looks very much like a miniature model of the American Falls.  Note the hard rock shelf, supported by softer rock below as shown in the "Classic Falls Structure" picture.  The soft rock is eroded more quickly and causes the falls face to develop and move up stream as the undermined shelf collapses.  Rubble from such collapses is evident at the base of the falls.  Just like that found at the American Falls at Niagara.
