Ferguson Run is a tributary to Gist Run and a secondary
tributary to Dunbar Creek. It is a shame that there is so much
acid mine drainage on this watershed, but that is the way it
is. This stream has some very nice structure, but appears to
be sterile. (At least in the lower reaches) Some portions of
the stream are nearly impassible because of laurel thickets.
That's why I took this trip in the winter snow. Air
temperature 28.6 degrees F. Snow at bottom, 11 inches. Snow at
top, OVER THREE FEET. WOW! A five mile trip took 8
hours. The most picturesque portion of this stream is
the middle portion from where the mine drains into it, up to
the point just east of the point where the trail turns south.
